Thank you for your interest in Down Island Traders. After many years of traveling the world in the 70's and 80's, we decided to import handicrafts from Bali, Indonesia. We opened our store in Wilmington NC in 1991, bringing our customers unique,hand crafted items of the highest quality at competitive prices. We always strive to create items that delight one's senses.
Importing hand crafted items since 1984
The majority of our product line is made in Bali. We work with small cottage industries or families of craftspeople. Each family member may bring a special skill in the process of completing the finished piece.
There is no word for 'art' in the Balinese language. To the Balinese, every day is holy and, therefore, both religion and art are inseparable parts of daily life. Traditionally, art is created by the Balinese as an offering to their gods. We are delighted to offer these wonderful hand crafted pieces for your pleasure and enjoyment.
